What is letterpress?

I’m so glad you asked! Letterpress printing is the process of using a raised, inked form and pressing it against paper. In the past, this form was lead or wood type. And designs were limited to what a print shop had on the premise. Nowadays, any digital file can be used to create a photopolymer plate (a UV sensitive plastic) that can be printed with. Letterpress is a relief printing technique – which is a fancy way of saying that it creates an impression in the paper – making it distinctively different than digital or offset printing.

Why do you do it?

Once the coffee has seeped into my bones, my daily mission is to create the best work possible. And everything is a part of this – expert design, spectacular attention to detail, a level of skill that is becoming obsolete and a love of my craft that is unparalleled.

My favorite part of what I do is the joy I give to people. I know, I know – how freaking cheesey. But it’s true. So buzz off.

I absolutely love the deep, belly laughter that people unleash when they read through my sweetly offensive greeting card options. I love the combination mouth-tsk-eye-roll face people make when they read an especially good card. I love the fake offended noises people make when they read the least politically correct cards – but they pick it up and buy it anyway. Because when it’s on a card, you can get away with saying things that you wouldn’t be able to say in a million years.

Who are you?

My name is Bill and you should know that I’m a smart ass. But I’m not as rude as I might seem. I’m actually quite friendly. I just don’t care what people think of me. And I think it really shows in my products. I really, truly enjoy creating these sweetly offensive items because they make people laugh. And that’s the best thing in the world for me.

My passion is to create – most frequently, I’m doing this through letterpress greeting cards and wedding invitations. My focus is to create the most amazing print and design work that I love as much as my clients and customers do.

The truth is that I can’t stop making. I hustle hard to bring amazing work into existence. But I’m just a simple man and I run a simple business. Don’t let all the hype fool you, I’m not as cool as you think I am. My business model is simple: make beautiful things that people fall in love with.
